Why do you think color is so influential in our clothing choices? Do you agree that color "sells the product?"

Clothing and clothing colors have a influential aspect of them. Garments come in tons and tons of colors and some colors sell more than others. The amount of sales per color of garment depends on a lot of things: the store, the audience, the price, and more. People buy colors of clothing that they personally like, and there are some people who buy colors that they feel look good on them, despite if the like the color or not. Some people do both. Society has put the label of pink being strictly a girl's color. Pink garments sell a lot with women, however, there has been a rise of male buyers for pink clothing. Maybe it is because they like the color; maybe it is to break the society label; maybe it is to support a cause; maybe it is something else. Who knows, but other "girly" colors sell a lot for women and girls in the fashion industry. I agree with the statement "color sells the product" because although plain white t-shirts and denim-blue jeans are classics, the introduction and obsession with colors and crazy patters in modern-time fashion had created a popular interest in society. Therefore, colored garments have been selling more than a simple black or white shirt. Colors come in an extremely large variety. Every color on the color wheel comes in various tints and shades, and there are infinite color combinations to choose from. Creating a piece of clothing in a way that no one else has ever seen before allows those trend-setters out there to adopt the trend or fashion and turn it into a "thing" where other people (trend followers) copy them. Color plays a huge part in the fashion industry and casts an influence on many other things, not just fashion in the fashion world.

What is color theory?

The color theory is a theory in visual arts. This theory is a "body of practical guidance" to color mixing and the visual representation of color combinations. The color wheel includes color mixtures and displays different things such as complementary colors and more. It defines the primary, secondary, and tertiary color categories, too! The primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Secondary colors are purple, green, and orange. Tertiary colors include the colors in-between, or a mix of primary and secondary colors, such as yellow-orange, blue-green, or blue-purple. The color wheel shows possible color combinations between the color categories. In addition, the color wheel can be split in half to produce warm and cool color groups. The warm color group includes red, orange, yellow, and every color in between. For cool colors, green, blue, and purple come to mind. Cool colors are thought to be relaxing and soothing, while warm colors represent emotions such as anger or symbols for words like "CAUTION" since these colors catch people's eyes easily. The color theory is not simply the normal color wheel, it is a bundle of several different wheels, diagrams, and information that produce one big idea. The color theory is a mixture of different things that help one understand the aspect of colors and color combinations for the physical appearance of it and the way your brain sees it, because the way your brain and eyes perceive colors is important.

What do you consider to be your greatest strengths? Why? How do you think your strengths can help others in a classroom or work setting?

Everyone has a strength, or something positive that they perform well or are proud of. These can include anything from being loving to being persuasive. I have an array of strengths that I am proud of. I am artistic, open-minded, and outgoing. There are many more adjectives I could use to describe my other strengths, but I will elaborate on these.
As I stated, I consider myself artistic. Anything that involves art catches my interest and I have a passion for anything that allows me to use my creativity. Drawing, painting, fashion designing, sewing, and even simply coloring in a coloring book, are a few things that I extremely enjoy doing and something I would love to pursue as a future career. Hobbies such as these allow me to let my creative juices flow, without having any boundaries. Also, I described myself as open-minded. I prefer to lead rather than follow. Listening to other's opinions and suggestions does nothing but help build a better and stronger idea. The more suggestions, the better! If a group went with only one person's idea, without asking the opinion of the others and forcing the others to work with it, the other people probably would lose interest of the idea, or strive to make change with their opinion. That is how I look at it. Lastly, I am outgoing. When I am interested in something, I become tremendously passionate about it, and I work on whatever it is with all my blood, sweat, and tears. This enthusiasm guides me to work hard and help others in the process. These are my strengths and they are very beneficial.

These strengths can help me in the future for a college or school. In order to be a great leader, one must have several strengths. I love being a leader and I strive to be one. My strengths boost me up and help me when I am guiding others. Taking charge and leading groups of people is a passion of mine and I work to make everything the best it can be. This is important in a classroom and work setting.

How can I/we use Fashion to make the my community/the world a better place?

Fashion, as well as clothing in general, can make the world a better place in many ways! Fashion designers and even regular, everyday people, have the creative ability to incorporate fashion into parts of the world that use it in more ways than just "clothes." Inventions such as the bra, denim jeans, and trousers have made a huge impact on society, and helped men and women for the better.

One major way fashion could be used to change the world is producing mass loads of cheap outfits for adults and children in Africa, and other places where less-fortunate people may need clothes or blankets to keep warm. Across the world, hundreds and thousands of people work on ways they can help with such problems, because fixing them would not only make themselves feel good but create joy and happiness for the people they help. We can change parts of the world by simply helping out with clothing.

In addition to the donating of clothes to the less-fortunate, fashion can be used in another way: As a fundraiser. Annual clothing drives, garage/rummage sales, and other ways to sell/collect clothes, are great ways to raise money and garments for charities and groups-in-need, such as the homeless or elderly. Conducting a coat drive for winter, or a blanket drive, etc., and donating all collected products to charities, can help save lives of people who are dying from the cold weather and other things. Shoes are also a good way to help people out. Gathering old shoes from your closet, friends, and family, can be sent to children and adults in other parts of the world who may not own a pair of shoes. Foster children may not have enough money to buy new shoes for school, while their old ones are fallen apart. African children walk around in dirt and forests barefoot everyday. Simple fashion-related ways of donating used or new supplies and clothing can impact families more than you think. Who knows? Maybe you could save a person's life.

Research an Avant-Garde designer!

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Alexander McQueen was a London-based, English fashion designer. He was head designer of the Louis Vuitton Givenchy fashion line, before he started his own line in 2004, a menswear line. He earned the British Fashion Council's British Designer of the Year award not once, but four times, and was names Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Unfortunately, McQueen committed suicide in 2010, shortly after the death of his mother, but during the time that he lived on this earth, he mad a huge impression.
Lee Alexander McQueen was born in March of 1969 in London's Lewisham district. His mother and father supported him and his 5 siblings with their small incomes. At an early age, he recognized his homosexuality and was teased for it by his schoolmates. At age 16, McQueen had dropped out of school . He then found a job in London that was famous for made-to-order men's suits. After that, McQueen decided to move along further with his clothes-making career. McQueen began working with theatrical costume designers, where their dramatic style of work would soon inspire his future designs and personal style. He later on left that job and enrolled at Central Saint Martin's College or Art & Design, where he received his M.A. in fashion design in 1992.
Soon after obtaining his degree, Alexander McQueen showed interest in designing women's clothes, and eventually started his own business for that. His introduction of "bumster" pants, famous for it's low-cut waistline, became a huge success and got his name out there. Four years after graduating from design school, McQueen was announced Chief Designer of Louis Vuitton-owned Givenchy, a French fashion house of haute couture. He later left after the company "constraining his creativity." McQueen made a huge advancement and impression in the fashion world for his unique style and impressive designs.

Spend some time locating fashion blogs that appeal to you. Write about at least two of them. Why do they appeal to you? Do you like the way they are laid out? Do you like the imagery? Does the content inspire you? How might they inspire your own Fashion Blog?

The fashion blog http://fuckyeahfashioncouture.tumblr.com/ is a Haute Couture blog on Tumblr. This blog is very organized with it's pictures and tab buttons. There are tab buttons for different sections of the blog, including some sites where you can ask them questions and learn more about the blog owner(s). I do not enjoy the header image at the top of the screen, however. It could be more creative and colorful, and catch the eyes of visitors who click on the blog. Being a haute couture blog, there are different sections such as "Chanel" and "Black and White," and there are also tabs for "Spring 2015", "Summer 2015", etc. These tabs are something I enjoy seeing on this blog and it inspires me to customize my fashion blog to have section choices as this one does.

http://treshaute.tumblr.com/ is another Haute Couture blog that is definitely more eye-catching than the one above. The header image is colorful and shows a snapshot of a creative fashion show. As for the pictures, all of them are unique and some are even GIFs so they move! This keeps me very interested in the blog and I never want to stop scrolling. Just as the previous blog displayed, this blog has a convenient array of section tabs to take you to different parts of the blog. These tabs include things anywhere from "Vintage" to "Hair" to sections for each year going from 2008 - 2015! In addition to pictures and GIFs, this blog also incorporates videos into their theme! Educational, behind-the-scenes, and how-to-make videos are re-blogged onto this site for their followers to view. Personally, I enjoy this blog a lot; everything about it is beautiful and creative. My goal is to have my own fashion blog on Tumblr that is similar to this one. It is very organized and each picture is different and inspiring. I love this blog.

One more Tumblr fashion blog is http://notordinaryfashion.tumblr.com/ . There are a few things I find appealing about this blog, and there a few things that I dislike, however, let's focus on the good things for right now! Each photo on this blog is clear, creative, and inspiring. Every garment shown here is different and creates a different emotion or feeling when it is looked upon. The types of clothing re-blogged are Haute Couture items, mostly from runway shows, and are incredibly helpful when you need inspiration for a new piece of clothing. Fashion blogs like these could use a little work, but for the most part, I enjoy scrolling through this blog.

Grey Hair has gone from dreaded to desired! Models, celebrities, and young women and men across the country have switched to follow this trend, rather than have their "natural" hair colors. The popularity of this grey hair has inspired older customers to quit dying over their hair!

Grey Hair? More like Granny Chic! Celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, and Kate Moss have all tried out the grey hair trend, while designers including Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Gareth Pugh are incorporating grey hair into their shows by having models' hair dyed that color. If this is not enough to convince you to take a plunge into the world of colored, or in this case un-colored, hair then take a look at a few of the photos below!

Fan accounts have been popular for this trend as well! Average people have been making social media fan-pages to honor this new look! Inspiring others to follow, this trend creates a new, different look for those people who love to stand out. Trend followers have been adopting this look and looking amazing while doing so!

The process for dying hair grey is very long and expensive, which is not so great. It takes hours and hours to finish the bleaching, because the hair must be platinum blonde. It can cause damage to the hair and it is probably going to have to result in a few inches of the hair being cut off. Also, every four to six weeks after dying and finishing up the grey, touch-ups are expected. Total, this cost will be high and pricey. However, the trend is thought to "push back our culture's obsession with staying forever young."

The Adidas Superstar shoe has made a re-appearance within the last few months to create a new trend. These shoes have been around since 1969, making them a modern-day classic, and have recently been getting super popular.

When my mother was young, she told me that she had a pair of these Superstars. After that, they started fading away and becoming less popular when, all of the sudden, the craze was back! Now, tens of thousands of pairs of these shoes are sold a week and Adidas has even created a variety of colors!

Often seen on social media sites such as Pinterest, Tumblr, and Instagram, pastel Superstars have made repeated appearances. More colors of these shoes include various shades of yellows, greens, oranges, reds, and purples, as well as every other color you can think of! You can also custom make your own Adidas to your favorite color!

The running sneakers have gone from sporty to fashionable! Back in 1969 when they were first created, Adidas were built for sports. The Superstar shoe was the first edition of the classic shell-toe sneaker. Before this, Adidas made sports cleats. Two years after the creation of the Superstars, Adidas introduced the Stan Smith tennis shoe, then shortly following with the cushioned running shoe in 2013. Finally in this year of 2015, Adidas paired with the Yeezy Boost, the first collaboration they have ever had with Kanye West. After the popularity boost of the Yeezy Boots by Kanye West, the classic Adidas slowly started to become popular again. After a little while, the Adidas Superstars became popular world-wide and stores started selling out. The costs have raised and it is not uncommon to see people of any age wearing them! Order yours today before they sell out!

You are a "Fashion Blogger." Please write an interesting fashion-related post for your audience. You may write about anything you like. It can be about an up-and-coming designer, about Haute Couture, Fast Fashion, Street Style, Japanese Fashion, a museum exhibit, etc. The sky is the limit! Please write at least 12 sentences in your own words. Include at least 2 images to support your writing.

Big pants are BACK everyone!! According to a survey by John Lewis, people all across the nation are currently favoring larger pants and underwear, rather than thongs and shorts. After years and years, society has come to love big, baggy, comfy pants. The big pant is now considered beautiful to many! Many United Kingdom (UK) and United States fashion blogs have come to the conclusion that big pants are IN! These pants of the 60's and 70's have grown to be highly favored. Silky, soft, flowy fabrics used to make these pants make you feel sexy and free. Sheer fabric and funky, wild prints give a fun, spontaneous side to it. They have a beachy, hippie side to them, too! Each different style and pattern of these pants creates a different mood to the customer, or different mindset. Monochromatic high-waisted palazzo pants with side pockets creates a classy, business look with hints of the 70's. However, some claim they are not for everyone. The increase in popularity is due to a classy-casual look. While looking somewhat professional, your outfit can also be comfortable! The hard part about these pants is how they fit. Some styles are produced for taller women; some are made for petite women; some are made for plus-sized women, but sometimes it can be hard to find a style that is right for you if you are one of those in-between people. There are endless styles, colors, and patterns of "big pants", and there is one for everyone!

Read "Standards for Career-Ready Practice,"as set forth by the California Department of Education here. Focusing on the #10 through#12, choose one of these three you feel the most important as you transition into college and career. Why did you choose this one? Can you relate it to something in your own life or something you have observed?

There were a few standards from the "Standards for Career Ready Practice" that stood out to me. However, while looking at numbers 10-12, the one that stood out the most to me was number 10. This states: Demonstrate creativity and innovation. Creativity and innovation is important for any job or school. For instance, a fashion or art school will probably look for a person with creativity and skills, rather than a plain person who thinks just like everyone else. Creative people find new and effective ways to solve problems. They think "outside of thebox" and function differently than other people. Also, innovative people are advanced and understand more than a person with no background knowledge of the subject. Primarily, these types of people are looked up to, whether if it is to design a new building or garment, or figuring out a way to solve an issue. The skills of creativity are highly admired, especially in the fashion and arts industries. If no one was creative, we would have all the same garments in every store. Since there are innovative and creative people working in these areas, the world is introduced to new things everyday. Some people love change, and that is what these people do: they create new, crazy things. Personally, I consider myself a creative person. I enjoy learning new ways of doing things such as designing fashion, drawing, or re-decorating my room. This has helped me in many ways to be different from others because a majority of others around me think in the same old box. Me, I think way outside that box; I jump out of that comfort zone and i just act! My creativity allows me to exceed in the subjects I love most and advance in my placement while working up to my big goal of becoming a fashion designer.

Read "Standards for Career-Ready Practice,"as set forth by the California Department of Education here. Focusing on the #6 through#9, choose the one from this group that you feel is the most important as you transition into college and career. Why did you choose this one? Can you relate it to something in your own life or something you have observed?

Number 7 from "Standards for Career-Ready Practice"Act as a responsible citizen in the workplace and the community, stood out the most to me. When you are working your way up to your dream, you have a lot of responsibilities. It is important to do your assigned tasks and to set a good example for others, such as your boss. The main goal is to show your boss that you a responsible enough to accept any task given by them. By doing so, you get more opportunities. These opportunities may give you, in particular, more experience than others around you. This allows your knowledge to be superior and you will make a excellent appearance and a great first impression when applying for colleges or jobs. In my own life, as I was growing up I always wanted to feel and be treated as if I was older. I wanted to become an adult faster than my body could mature to be such a thing. Unfortunately, my behavior and lack of responsibility reflected that I should not be treated like an adult, since I do not act like one. Of course, I was about 7 or 8 years old then, but you get the idea. The same thing goes for when you are applying to a job or school. If you do not act mature and responsible, nobody will feel comfortable giving you big and serious tasks, in fear you will mess it up. Bosses and co-workers in a job would trust you more if you dressed nice everyday and did a little extra work around the office, then if you wore a stained graphic t-shirt and jeans with tennis shoes while slacking off for hours out of the day. Responsibility is key for anything because without responsibility, there is basically no trust.

Read "Standards for Career-Ready Practice,"as set forth by the California Department of Education here. Focusing on the first five, choose the one that you feel is the most important as you transition into college and career. Why did you choose this one? Can you relate it to something in your own life or something you have observed?

As I am reading "Standards for Career-Ready Practice," set forth by the California Department of Education, there are a few of the standards that particularly stand out to me. However, the one that stood out the most was #3: Develop an education and career plan aligned with personal goals. Recently, I have found this standard to be extremely effective. Since I have been thinking about college a lot, I have always wondered how I can reach my ultimate goal. I have found that setting small, personal goals has helped a lot when moving towards my dreams. This way, I can recognize the value of each step in the experiential and educational processes. Also, it helps me understand that nearly all career paths require continuous education and experiences in order to adapt to the expectations, procedures and practice of the constantly changing work environment. Requesting and receiving assistance and guidance from others such as friends, family, counselors, teachers, and even deans and principals, is a good way of learning and practicing how to communicate with others to move forward. The skills attained from setting personal goals goes a long way when working towards one's main goal. Lastly, goal setting helps set a pathway to your goal, rather than trying to immediately get there. Things take time and nothing will just be simply handed to you. You have to work hard for what you want.

You are teaching your friend how to lay out pattern pieces so that they are "on grain." Write, in detail, what you would tell them. What would happen if you did not lay your pieces out on the straight-of-grain?

In order to have a perfect-fitting garment such as pants, a shirt, or even a dress, the pattern pieces must be layed out on the fabric so that they are "on grain." By this, I mean that the fabric must be layed out evenly on the threads of the fabric that are woven in the same direction. On each pattern piece, there is a line with an arrow on each side. This is called the grain-line arrow. On a pattern piece, the grain-line arrow helps you to be able to tell if the pattern in "on grain." In order to be able to tell, get out a measuring tape. Measure one side of the arrow to the selvage and then pin the pattern piece down into the fabric. Next, measure the other side of the arrow. Make sure that this side is the exact same measurement from the selvage edge, then pin it. Once both pins are in place, the pattern in considered "on grain." This helps with the finished product and making sure the garment will fit correctly to the body and it's curves. Otherwise, some parts of the item may be tighter or looser than the other parts. This would be the result of an error in the measurements for the grain-line arrow. To have a perfect, well-fitted garment, the grain-line arrow must be measured equally from one of the sides of the fabric, preferably the selvage, and must be pinned down to eliminate the chances of messing up the measurements.

Using the internet, read about several jobs in the fashion industry. On your blog page, write about three different fashion jobs. What are they? Describe each. What is the required education level? Is there travel involved? What are the duties of the position? Include any other interesting facts you discovered in your research. Did you learn that there are numerous jobs in the industry that you were not aware of?

The amount of jobs in the fashion industry are endless. One of them, a Trend Forecaster, is an interesting job to have. A trend forecaster combines their knowledge of fashion, design, and history with business information and consumer research. Ultimately, these people provide new knowledge to designers, product developers, and buyers, assist in the creation of new products, and they look for ways to improve old products. In addition, they search for facts and analyze those findings to predict trends that would positively affect the amount and types of fashion products that the customers will buy. To be a Trend Forecaster, one must have at least a bachelor's degree in, usually, fashion design or merchandising, marketing, visual arts, or consumer behavior. Secondly, there is a person called a Fashion Sales Representative. These people sell manufactures garments and accessories, as well as other fashion products, to buyers, provide samples, illustrations, and catalogs to the product line of the company, listens to customer concerns, and they also do a lot more! As for education, there are no minimum requirements. However, it is recommended to have some sort of training in fashion. Lastly, another job in the fashion industry is an assistant fashion designer. An assistant fashion designer is an entry-level position, where one assists fashion designers and chief designers as well. They may help with designing clothes or even preparing for fashion shows and debuts. Also, they may help with sewing, pattern making, cutting, coloring, and sketching. In May of 2008, the median annual wages for salaried fashion designers were $61,160. The average starting salary for this job is around $40,000-$41,000 a year and earn up to $47,000 per year or even more! There is an extremely large array of occupations in the fashion industry and there were tons I had no idea about!
