ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Alexander McQueen was a London-based, English fashion designer. He was head designer of the Louis Vuitton Givenchy fashion line, before he started his own line in 2004, a menswear line. He earned the British Fashion Council's British Designer of the Year award not once, but four times, and was names Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Unfortunately, McQueen committed suicide in 2010, shortly after the death of his mother, but during the time that he lived on this earth, he mad a huge impression.
Lee Alexander McQueen was born in March of 1969 in London's Lewisham district. His mother and father supported him and his 5 siblings with their small incomes. At an early age, he recognized his homosexuality and was teased for it by his schoolmates. At age 16, McQueen had dropped out of school . He then found a job in London that was famous for made-to-order men's suits. After that, McQueen decided to move along further with his clothes-making career. McQueen began working with theatrical costume designers, where their dramatic style of work would soon inspire his future designs and personal style. He later on left that job and enrolled at Central Saint Martin's College or Art & Design, where he received his M.A. in fashion design in 1992.
Soon after obtaining his degree, Alexander McQueen showed interest in designing women's clothes, and eventually started his own business for that. His introduction of "bumster" pants, famous for it's low-cut waistline, became a huge success and got his name out there. Four years after graduating from design school, McQueen was announced Chief Designer of Louis Vuitton-owned Givenchy, a French fashion house of haute couture. He later left after the company "constraining his creativity." McQueen made a huge advancement and impression in the fashion world for his unique style and impressive designs.
