How can I/we use Fashion to make the my community/the world a better place?

Fashion, as well as clothing in general, can make the world a better place in many ways! Fashion designers and even regular, everyday people, have the creative ability to incorporate fashion into parts of the world that use it in more ways than just "clothes." Inventions such as the bra, denim jeans, and trousers have made a huge impact on society, and helped men and women for the better.

One major way fashion could be used to change the world is producing mass loads of cheap outfits for adults and children in Africa, and other places where less-fortunate people may need clothes or blankets to keep warm. Across the world, hundreds and thousands of people work on ways they can help with such problems, because fixing them would not only make themselves feel good but create joy and happiness for the people they help. We can change parts of the world by simply helping out with clothing.

In addition to the donating of clothes to the less-fortunate, fashion can be used in another way: As a fundraiser. Annual clothing drives, garage/rummage sales, and other ways to sell/collect clothes, are great ways to raise money and garments for charities and groups-in-need, such as the homeless or elderly. Conducting a coat drive for winter, or a blanket drive, etc., and donating all collected products to charities, can help save lives of people who are dying from the cold weather and other things. Shoes are also a good way to help people out. Gathering old shoes from your closet, friends, and family, can be sent to children and adults in other parts of the world who may not own a pair of shoes. Foster children may not have enough money to buy new shoes for school, while their old ones are fallen apart. African children walk around in dirt and forests barefoot everyday. Simple fashion-related ways of donating used or new supplies and clothing can impact families more than you think. Who knows? Maybe you could save a person's life.
